January 16, 2024The podcast episode “Claudia Goldin, the 2023 NobelLaureate in Economics” features a description of her work on gender pay equity from the 19th century to the present. She delved into the gender pay gap starting with the post-World War II economic boom and despite changing expectations of women in the workforce, there are still systemic biases towards equality in pay due to the role of women in the household, society, workforce. There are still inadequate attention paid to childcare and how working mothers can rise to the same level of pay as men in the labor force. She became the first woman to become a tenured Professor of Economics at Harvard University in 1990.
